The Fundamentals of Entrepreneurial Success

Embarking on an entrepreneurial career is a journey filled with challenges, learning and, sometimes, serendipitous opportunities and a bit of luck.

Whether you’re launching an innovative startup or developing a traditional entrepreneurial venture, understanding the factors that contribute to success is crucial.

In this post, we’ll explore the perspectives of some of the companies represented by their most influential leaders in the business world and how the combination of their approaches, along with sacrifice and perseverance, can guide you to success.

Y Combinator: “Make something people want”

One of the first lessons any entrepreneur must learn is the importance of creating something that people actually want.

Y Combinator, one of the world’s most influential startup accelerators, has proven that identifying and fulfilling a market need is one of the most important steps to success. This approach forces us to put the customer at the center of our strategy, listen to their needs and desires, and develop products and services that solve real problems.

Paul Graham and the co-founders of Y Combinator spent countless hours mentoring and guiding emerging startups, often working endless days, nights and weekends to ensure the success of their participants. This sacrifice and commitment to the mission of helping other entrepreneurs succeed is a clear example of how perseverance can lead to success.

Steve Jobs: “Do what you love”

To do what you love, you must first discover it and be passionate about it. Steve Jobs, the visionary behind Apple, taught us that excellence in design and user experience can generate its own demand. Jobs believed that if we create something perfect according to what we like, people will want it. This philosophy invites us not to settle for good, but to always aspire to excellent.

Steve Jobs was known for his extreme dedication, often working late into the night and making extraordinary demands on his entire team to achieve perfection in products such as the iPhone and Mac.

His focus on quality and innovation not only revolutionized the technology industry, but also set a standard of excellence that continues to inspire entrepreneurs around the world. That’s why his first three rules of success were: Do what you love, be different and try hard.

Jeff Hoffman: “More Talent, More Innovation and Creativity”.

Jeff Hoffman, president of Booking.com, reminds us of the importance of talent, innovation and creativity. For him, these elements are essential to differentiate yourself in a competitive market. In any company, having a talented and creative team is essential to develop unique and effective solutions.

Jeff Hoffman has shared on multiple occasions how he has worked tirelessly, traveling the world and dedicating personal time and resources to innovate and lead Booking.com to become an industry leader. Hoffman had to sleep in his office many times while working, and he has even told how he booked hotels manually because his innovation wasn’t working for him.

My own thoughts and perspective

These and many other stories are testimonies of how the combination of talent, innovation and creativity, only together with unwavering commitment, can lead a company to success.

That is why I want to share my own perspective. I firmly believe that these factors and many others are essential, but in my opinion the real value lies in daily sacrifice and perseverance. Without constant commitment and unwavering dedication, even the best ideas and most talented teams have failed.

Success is not achieved by simply showing up to work every day, even if you do it to the best of your ability. Today is Sunday, July 7, 2024, and it is already 3:00 in the afternoon. Here I am, working. I am not asking you to follow me or do the same, but I want to remind you of something important. Many have told me that I have no problems because I have achieved things that others have not. They have also claimed that I have all my problems solved. However, no one has remembered the more than 30 years that I have been working and trying to create projects and innovations almost 24 hours a day, leaving only sleep as the only rest.

Success, in reality, is an arduous and often lonely journey. It is not about the goal, but about the road traveled, the endless nights, the silent sacrifices. It is easy to see the achievements and assume that everything has been simple, but behind every triumph there is a story of tireless effort.

Today, while the world enjoys its day off, I move forward, driven by passion and commitment. I am not looking for admiration or followers, I just want them to understand that true success is not measured by what you get, but by what you give. Every hour of dedication, every moment of sacrifice, is an investment in a dream that does not give up in the face of adversity.

At FySelf, we are facing significant challenges, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, our team and our founders have demonstrated unwavering dedication, working hard to turn these challenges into opportunities and move our project forward. It is this daily sacrifice and perseverance that has allowed us to move forward and achieve many of our goals.

Business success does not depend on a single person or a single factor.

For me it is the result of the combination of “creating something that people want“, “doing what you want aspiring to excellence“, “fostering innovation and difference“, but especially it is the supreme result of “sacrifice, perseverance“.

That is why I want to leave this message to the FySelf team and to all the entrepreneurs who read us:

At the end of the day, whether you are launching a startup or developing a traditional business project, remember that every effort you make represents a step towards success.

Without true sacrifice and perseverance nothing can be achieved and the only way to do so is through daily and permanent motivation and dedication to what you do.

It is crucial that you find that source that drives you forward, even in the most difficult moments and that motivation must be nurtured by the passion for your project and the true desire to solve a problem that truly changes the world.

I even talk about the sacrifice it means to give up many things, with the intention of achieving the purpose and goal you have set for yourself. In this post I share with you some examples.

That is why I advise you that, if at some point you feel that you are making that great sacrifice and that this does not reward you with a real satisfaction, either life or economic, it is important that you change and do something else, however difficult and complex it may be to abandon your project.

But if your decision is to move forward, then remember:

  • Create something people want.
  • Aim for excellence by doing what you love.
  • Encourage Innovation by doing things differently.

But you are only going to achieve it with sacrifice and perseverance and for that you have to find the maximum motivation in what you do every day or simply change your work.

Let us continue to work with passion, dedication and commitment. Together, we can overcome any obstacle and reach our most ambitious goals, but only by enjoying every step we take along the way as we sacrifice every day.
