Value Proposition Digital Business

The Mistake You Make Every Year: Consuming Content Like You’ll Live 300 Years

You wake up thirsty for knowledge. Another course in your cart. Podcast in queue. Guru promising the definitive method that will change everything.

And meanwhile, you look at your business. That idea that keeps you up at night. That project you promised to launch “when it’s ready.”

And it’s exactly the same as it was 12 months ago.

Sound familiar?

The Problem Isn’t What You Know

Let me be direct with you: the problem isn’t that you lack information.

The problem is that you keep thinking like an employee while trying to live like an entrepreneur.

And that mindset won’t fix itself with more courses.

The right mindset doesn’t come from accumulating data in your brain like a hard drive. It comes from reprogramming the mental patterns that keep you in the same place year after year.

Because you can know all the steps to build a successful business and still not take the first one.

The Lesson of the Boy, the Dog, and the Ticks

Let me tell you something that forever changed how we understand business.

A mentor shared this story with us when we were starting out:

A boy asked his father for a dog. The father agreed, but with one clear condition: “You take care of it.”

The boy promised he would. And at first, everything was magical.

Until one day the dog showed up covered in ticks. The boy, desperate, ran to his grandmother looking for help.

“Give him garlic,” she told him. “It kills ticks instantly.”

The boy took a clove of garlic and put it in front of the dog’s snout. But the animal backed away, refusing to eat it. He tried every possible way. Nothing worked.

He came back crying to his grandmother.

“It doesn’t work, grandma. He won’t eat it.”

She smiled wisely.

“Of course it doesn’t work like that. Don’t give him raw garlic by itself. Wrap it in ham first.”

The boy did it. The dog devoured the ham in seconds, garlic included. Problem solved.

What Does This Have to Do with Your Business?

Everything.

Because in digital business, your marketing is the ham. Your product or deep transformation is the garlic.

And people don’t buy garlic. Not at first.

Ham First, Garlic Later

Here’s the uncomfortable truth most entrepreneurs ignore:

Your audience isn’t interested in “improving their mindset” or “transforming their life” when they’re seeing your ad for the first time. That’s pure garlic. And pure garlic doesn’t sell.

What they really want is:

  • Multiply their sales this quarter
  • Make their first $1,000 online without having to quit their job
  • Automate their business to get their time back
  • Get their first 100 customers predictably

That’s the ham. The immediate desire. Visible result they can imagine in their life tomorrow.

The Big Marketing Mistake

Most entrepreneurs spend months trying to sell the deep transformation from the first contact.

“Discover your purpose”
“Redefine your relationship with money”
“Change your limiting mindset”

All of that is valuable. It’s necessary. It’s the garlic that truly cures the problem.

But nobody’s going to bite if you present it like that.

First you have to give them what they want.

Then, when they trust you, when they’ve already tried your ham and liked it, that’s when you give them what they really need.

That’s the difference between selling empty promises and building a real, lasting transformation.

How to Apply the “Ham First” Principle in Your Business

The change isn’t in what you offer. It’s in how you communicate it.

Step 1: Identify Your Audience’s Primary Desire

Ask yourself: What does my ideal client want to achieve in the next 30 days?

Not in 6 months. Not “eventually.” Now.

Do they want more income? More free time? Clients? Authority in their niche?

That’s your ham.

Step 2: Reframe Your Message

Instead of:
“Transform your mindset to create a successful business”

Try:
“How to get your first 5 clients this month (even if you’ve never sold anything online)”

See the difference? Both messages lead to the same place. But one generates immediate action.

Step 3: Deliver the Garlic After

Once someone buys your product, takes your course, or subscribes to your membership, that’s when you do the deep work.

You teach them that getting clients isn’t just tactics. It’s mindset.
That making money isn’t just strategy. It’s belief reprogramming.
That automation isn’t just tools. It’s thinking differently.

But all of that comes after the ham. Never before.

Put This Strategy into Practice Right Now

You don’t need to redo your entire business. You just need to change the entry angle.

Here’s a practical exercise you can do in the next 15 minutes:

Prompt to Reframe Your Value Proposition

Copy this prompt and use it with your favorite AI (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, TwinH). It’s designed to transform your message from an immediate desire approach without losing the depth of your offer:

Act as a senior positioning and conversion strategist with experience in digital business.

Your task: rewrite the value proposition of my product or service following the "ham first, garlic later" principle.

1. Analyze my current message and classify it as "ham" (immediate desire) or "garlic" (deep transformation).
2. Identify the **primary desire** of my audience (status, savings, income, freedom, validation, etc.).
3. Generate three versions of my proposition in "ham" format, communicating a visible, specific, and measurable result in less than 30 days, while maintaining consistency with the actual product.
4. For each version, add a "garlic" line that reinforces the deep transformation that occurs after achieving that result.
5. Close with a recommendation on how to use this new angle in my ads, landing page, or emails.

Here's my current proposition:
[Write it here]

This prompt will give you three message alternatives ready to use on your website, ads, or sales emails.

And the best part: you’ll maintain the integrity of your offer while making it infinitely more attractive.

Real Change Starts Today

You’ve been spending months, maybe years, consuming information about how to grow your business.

But knowledge without execution is just mental noise.

You don’t need another course anymore. Another podcast. Another guru telling you what you already know.

You need to change how you think about what you sell.

You need to understand that people don’t buy abstract transformations. They buy concrete results. They buy ham.

And when they try it and like it, that’s when you deliver the garlic that truly transforms them.

That’s the difference between staying exactly the same 12 months from now… or looking back and not recognizing your business because of how much it’s grown.

The decision is yours.

But remember: ham first, garlic later.

Always.
